Climate Services

Climate services are defined as the generation, provision, and contextualization of climate information and knowledge to support decision-making at all levels of society, particularly for adaptation to climate variability and change (Vaughan and Dessai, 2014). These services aim to provide timely, tailored, and actionable climate-related knowledge that can be used to reduce risks and capitalize on opportunities associated with climate variability and change (Hewitt et al., 2012).

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) further describe climate services as the provision of climate information in a way that assists decision-making by individuals and organizations, ensuring that the information is relevant, credible, and usable (WMO, 2014).
