Climate advocacy is incomplete without climate action, which includes adaptation. One of the main excuses companies like ReconAfrica use is that the Kavango region needs development—but what kind of development are we talking about? Our traditional knowledge systems are rich, and if developed in ways that minimize environmental degradation and biodiversity loss, they could enhance people’s lives while preserving the harmonious lifestyle our communities have maintained for centuries. They also have the potential to empower people. What excites me most about being part of preserving legacies is the opportunity to create an impactful project that will spark a snowflake effect—not just in this region, but in other communities affected by climate change and extractive industries. It’s about empowering Africa by embracing our own solutions, our heritage, and our pride.
