The Historic Hampton House is honored to have been selected to be a part of such a prestigious organization like Preserving Legacies. This opportunity gives the HHH ability to learn the basic components needed to preserve the heritage culture of the HHH and Brownsville. Brownsville, a historically significant neighborhood, has been a resilient and vibrant community since it was established. During the Jim Crow era, it became a sanctuary for African Americans seeking refuge from racial segregation and discrimination. The neighborhood thrived with Black-owned businesses, cultural institutions, and a strong sense of community. It was a place where African Americans could live, work, and create a supportive environment away from the harsh realities of segregation.
